Catherine's Annual Festive Service of Carols Honours Unsung Heroes
Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Love and Generosity
The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.
In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.
A Gradual Return
The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.
A Sisterly Duo
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.
Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
